How it decides
It turns everything into pounds so enjoyment, money and time can be compared.
- Your time. Each hour costs what an hour of your free time is worth. With fewer free hours, each hour costs more. At 25 free hours a week you pay the normal rate. At 6 hours it's about double, and it never goes over three times. The rate also goes up if the task needs doing this week (×1.25) or today (×1.6), because those hours have to come out of the next few days.
- Enjoyment. 5 out of 10 is "it's fine": about as good as whatever else you'd do with the time. Each point above that adds 40% of an hour's worth, so something you love pays you back three times. Each point below takes 40% away. Something you hate costs you the time and the misery too.
- Money. Taken off, pound for pound.
- Urgency. If it's optional, the choice is to do it or skip it, and skipping costs nothing. If it needs doing, skipping isn't a choice. It's between doing it yourself and paying someone.
- Paying someone else. You keep your hours and skip the misery, but you pay their price and miss out on any fun.
The best option wins. The balance shows by how much.
